Upcoming reviews

Just a quick note to say I’ve got a couple more reviews in the pipeline: The Simpsons Game for the PS2 (review to post tonight), and… Sim City Societies! I just got the nod from Tristan this afternoon.

*really excited*

Oh, and I’m nearly at 20,000 words for NaNoWriMo! Still going strong :-)

A real update

OK, Ok, I know I’m pretty overdue for a real update. Here goes.

Things have been reasonably busy at work. Have had a couple of projects stretch out a bit (which means I haven’t got all the info I need to proceed with my end) but it’s not bothering me too much.

Steve & I have been packing, slowly, for our move into our house at the end of November. It’s still hard to believe it is really our house! I’m excited and nervous (and I hope the whole moving house thing won’t impact my NaNoWriMo too much the weekend of the 25th). The garden’s really taking off. So far we’ve planted: peas, beans, tomatoes (3 kinds), eggplants, lettuce, swan plants, chilies (only about 16 plants in the greenhouse!), chives, spring onions, basil, an artichoke and some Vietnamese mint. Awesome! We’ve also found out that we are going to be able to get a gas line piped to the house, which will mean a gas stove-top, an infinitiy hot water supply, and gas heating. Combined with all the ultra cozy wool insulation we’ve put in the ceiling (and are putting in the walls soon), we are going to be so toasty this winter!

Hopefully I’ll be getting my laptop back today. Today, as in 10 hours before NaNoWriMo begins. Talk about cutting it close! I’ve been making plans for my story for the last week or so. It’s going to be a Sci-Fi. I love Sci-Fi, but have never written much of it before. It’s going to be interesting!

Oh, and I’ve been playing craploads of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: And Justice For All. It reminds me a little of those Perry Mason computer games I used to play on my Commodore 64. It rocks!

Haven’t been doing a hell of a lot of spinning/knitting lately, though I have started spinning some lovely brown wool for a sweater that one day I will knit for Steve. Oh, and am finishing some socks for mum (xmas), after which I have to knit socks for dad - everyone for some reason wanted socks for christmas! In summer!

P.S. Oh, and how annoying is it that the NaNo forums are so totally clogged I can’t even hop on? Sheesh.

Useful NaNo tool #3

It’s called Q10. It’s an alternate word-processing tool (produces text files) that has a full-screen display, plus does timed alarms if you’re really wanting to churn out some words. I’m going to try it out this year. Will let you know how I get on.

Getting ready…

You may have noticed the little badge in the upper right hand corner of my blog. Yup, it’s WriMo time! I’ve been scouring the boards, scribbling notes and generally trying to prepare myself for the onslaught that’ll be starting next thursday…the novel! What will it be like? Will the gods smile on me next month, or will they (as they have in previous years) throw me a curve ball? To recap:

2003: first NaNoWriMo. Was in Dublin. Working on a borrowed laptop from my sister. Laptop died, and in the last week of November I moved back to New Zealand. Mission: failed.

2004: I thought I was much more organised. Living in a flat on Kelburn Parade in Wellington. Desk, check. Computer, check. All going well until my grandpa died on the 17th. I didn’t feel much like completing it after that. Mission: failed.

2005: A highlight. Most of 2005’s WriMo was written on Steve’s kitchen table, in the sun, at his gorgeous house in Raumati, sea air coming up through the wide open doors to his deck. Mission: completed!

2006: The start of November found us in Vietnam. I actually started my NaNoWriMo attempt in my moleskine notebook from a hammock on Phu Quoc island, while drinking a pina colada. Too difficult to keep up the momentum amidst the snorkeling, swimming, motorbike trips around the island, drinking and avoiding dropping coconuts. Mission: failed.

This year I’m determined. I reckon this November will be a relatively stable one, without too many distractions, though we ARE moving house on the 26th. No matter, I reckon I can do it!

Wednesday

What is it with Wednesdays that just do not inspire confidence? It started this morning in bed, before I’d even got up: urgh, it’s Wednesday….. sorry to say I’m having one of those days where I’d rather be at home reading.

In other news (hurrah, there is some!) my Pendemonium ink order arrived yesterday. Four gorgeous J. Herbin inkpots, in Bleu Pervenche, Lierre Sauvage, Cafe des Iles and Ambre de Birmanie. Pens were immediately rinsed out (nearly empty ones I mean) and filled - the Parker with the Ambre de Birmanie, the Lamy with Lierre Sauvage. So far, so good, aside from my green-stained fingers.

Got a couple of text messages from James yesterday - he’s in Portland! What a coincidence that he’s there as well as Jeremy and Megumi. He was heading up to go see Mt. St. Helens and then was going to be driving down to L.A. - I hope Steve & I can make it back sometime soon (next year maybe). I miss James - I hope he comes over here once he’s finished his South America trip.

There’s also some really weird shit going on with the weather at the moment. I know - weather. Hardly the most scintillating topic, however there’s some serious winds hitting the south island at the moment while strangely, Wellington’s enjoying some pretty balmy weather, which is always going to be considered weird for the town that can out-blow Chicago.

Oh, and a week till NaNoWriMo starts - you can find me here.
